Puppy Supply List

There is so much to buy before you welcome your 'fur-ever" friend home.  Hopefully this list will give you a good start on what to buy.

Dog Toys
There are 2 types of dog toy: 1. Training toys and 2. Chewing toys.
A training toy can be anything your dog loves to play with, for example a ball or a really fun squeaky today.  These are also toys that you do not want your pup to have free access to because, it will destroy it if left alone to chew.
A Chewing toy is going to be made of hard plastic or silicone.  These types of toys or even bones can be left in a dogs crate, in the puppy play pen or around the house for a positive thing to chew on.

Dog Treats
When training your dog, treats are a must.  Every dog will love a good treat.  You don't have to buy expensive treats, especially if you will be training you dog a lot in the day.  You can have some boiled chicken or turkey.  Remember, when training your pup, the treat needs to be easily breakable so that you are not giving them a meal replacement or making them fat!  Here is a link to our favorite treats:

Puppy Food
Here at Lake Mountain Doodle we are very conscious about what food we feed our dog.  Even our growing pups get high quality nutrition. Here is a link to the puppy food we feed our pups.

Bedding
Simple bedding is the best idea for a small puppy.  A word to the wise, they will probably chew it up anyway.  At Lake Mountain Doodle, we like to use washable beds that fit right inside my crate.  We usually buy about 3 of the cheaper washable beds so we can constantly keep the crate clean.  This helps promote a clean living environment, or den, for the puppy - which in turn helps speed up their potty training. Crate
Here at Lake Mountain Doodle, we do not suggest that you sleep with your pets.  You could easily roll on top of a puppy, just like a baby.  An added bonus to not sleeping with your pet is there will never be fleas or worms in you bedding.  As crates go, we suggest you purchase a metal crate with double doors and a divider that can grow with the puppy as they grow. Puppy Play Pen
Part of potty training is not allowing your dog to have access to your entire home all at once, but being introduced, slowly to the home, yet still having a place to play that is their own.  Having some kind of puppy play pen or a gated off section of your kitchen is something we suggest to keep your pet happy, healthy and on track in their potty training - and minimizing the likelihood of accidents in your home.  Here is a link:

Potty Pads
In their play pen we suggest there is a place to relieve themselves.  Our pups have grown up with washable puppy pads.  Disposable pads will work also, but because puppies are curious creatures, they have a tendency to shred the disposable kind.  Here is a link:

Cleaning Supplies
Puppies will have accidents.  It's best to plan for them.  We suggest you use a cleaner that has enzymes in it to kill the smell - even for the pup.  That way, your pup does not create their own favorite "spot" to go in your home.  Here is our favorite cleaner:

Dog Grooming
If you plan to take your pet to a groomer, please get great references. There has been occurrences lately of groomers hurting dogs by choking them - make sure to check out your groomers references. If you plan to take on the grooming of your 'fur-ever" friend on your own, here are our favorite clippers:

Leash and Collar
A leash and collar are things everyone thinks about most and they may be the least important.  Any leash will do, even the cheap $1.00 kind, for now.  As your dog grows, it will be important to get a nicer leash to make sure you have your dog under control at all times. We suggest having a collar with the clip and not the old fashioned buckle.  This makes it easier access for things like grooming.  Just make sure that clip is a nice quality kind, not cheap and flimsy.   Have fun shopping!

Food & Water Bowls
There are so many bowls you can purchase when bringing a new puppy home.  Here are some things to keep in mind.  The food station can get pretty messy and drippy, you may want to purchase some type of mat to go under this area.  Bowls need to be washed on a consistent basis, We recommend purchasing at least four (2 water, 2 food) so you can run them through the dishwasher without depriving you pup of any nourishment.  Bowls can be a carrier for bacteria if not properly cleaned and plastic bowl, no matter what, become a harbor for bacteria.  Because of this, we suggest you purchase some stainless steel bowls.
